Library Hop: Menomonee Falls

Discover, Play, and Explore: A Homeschooler’s Adventure at Menomonee Falls Library and Beyond!

Menomonee Falls Public Library is definitely worth putting on your roadschool bucket list for Southeast Wisconsin! If you have tweens & teens in particular, they are going to love the amenities. After your study sesh, there are several good spots to refuel with a picnic lunch, and… if you have the time… check out a nearby attraction before heading home. Let’s dive in!

Children’s Space

Generally speaking, the Menomonee Falls Public Library is a treasure trove for homeschoolers, featuring a recently renovated children's library with plenty of table space, interactive learning stations, study rooms, and an inviting atmosphere. It has an energetic design aesthetic and K-6 students will enjoy searching for their favorite books and library-of-things (LOTS). Additionally, students aged 10-12 can find their groove in a dedicated space on the main level, designed specifically for their unique interests and social needs.

Teen Space

For the teens, the second level boasts a spacious and modern hangout spot with casual seating, four large-screen displays for mirroring & entertainment, and direct access to the Latitude Café with a full beverage menu and snack options. These amenities make it the perfect environment for bringing a couple of homeschool friends to study, collaborate on projects, or simply relax and play games on the PS5 and Nintendo Switch before heading home.

For You

For busy homeschool parents, there are plenty of cozy nooks to focus on lesson planning and remote work. I was particularly drawn to the amazing second-floor covered balcony. It beckons you to step outside for fresh air while providing shade and shelter! This library provides the perfect blend of productivity and relaxation.

The Forge Makerspace

The Forge makerspace is a spacious, inviting hub designed for creativity and innovation, perfect for homeschoolers looking to dive into hands-on learning! Equipped with tools like a 3D printer, sewing machines, Cricut tools and basic crafting supplies, it invites young creators to explore their ideas and bring them to life. The room is typically open for drop-in use during normal library hours and is unstaffed (apart from scheduled programs). If it’s a gloomy day, grab a coffee, browse some art books for inspo, then head into the makerspace with a loose plan.

This is my new favorite library. We’ve gotta come back here.

Picnic Spots

After you’ve accomplished your learning goals for the morning, you can take advantage of the library’s playground – OR – consider taking your road snacks over to one of these three places:

Village Park Playground & Splash Pad

Recommended by the librarians, this playground for all abilities features several awesome structures, a splash pad and ample space for homeschool families to gather. If you think of it, grab a frisbee, ball & glove or a few favorite outside toys to play in the green space. With picnic areas tucked beneath shady trees, it's the perfect backdrop for afternoon fun!

Mill Pond Park

This small but charming oasis features a walking path, restrooms and green spaces to picnic. The highlight of the park is the “natural” waterfall that the city is named after. This park provides a decent photo-op and quiet picnic lunch.

Old Falls Village Historical Museum

This living-history museum features restored buildings, exhibits, and artifacts that illuminate the lives of early settlers in Wisconsin. At the time of this post, the park advertised open hours every day from 7a-9p. Be sure to check the website for museum hours and a listing of public events.

Other Attractions

To round out your library hop to Menomonee Falls, consider these local recommendations: Epilogue Books, The Garcade, Bugline Bike Trail and Chocolate Falls (to end the day on a sweet note).

With all of the amenities that the library provides coupled with plenty of outdoor opportunities to explore, you won’t be disappointed with a local roadschooling trip to Menomonee Falls.
